Will Verizon's required data plan for smart phones ever be canceled or made optional?

by NancyJ on April 2, 2010

My birthday is coming up and my parents are getting me a new phone. I want a smart phone, but they say they won't buy it if they have to pay for the features they know I won't even use.
Which is true because I really won't use them, I just like the way the smart phones operate, they're classy. :D

No. Never.

There is no point in spending all that money on those devices if you are not going to use the internet features, it completely defeats the purpose. Might as well buy a Benz w/out the engine. Besides, this is where their revenue is right now. Selling you 1400 minutes doesn’t make them money, it pays for the constant upkeep.

I know they are "cool" with or without the internet, but they are intended pretty much as mobile/mini computers that are only at their full potential with internet access.

Not at any time soon, Verizon is now starting to require a data plan for all future "enhanced multimedia devices" aka env touch and samsung rogue and anything after that.

Smartphones are use by alot of businessmen as well so i don’t think they will ever take off the requirement for smartphone data.
