Unknowingly trying as they might to replace the good old PC or personal, innovators have come with some of the smallest gadgets to create new documents and to browse the internet, but still, the desktop PC lives on, owing its existence to its size and ease of use and ability to do a lot of things that the mobile gadgets are just unable to do.

Tablets and smartphones have been flooding the gadgetry market paving the way for a new chapter in communication and file sharing, but even if tons of these new devices come and be replaced by newer and more slicker ones, the continued increase in sales of desktops PCs remain unabated and Intel has shown more sales than ever based on the statistics last week. A leading analyst has even predicted a tremendous boost in PC sales this coming year to the tune of almost twenty five percent.

However, a convergence of different occurrences has stirred a belief that the eradication of the use of the common desktop PC is now nearer to becoming a reality. And this conviction has been brought about by component prices becoming cheaper than ever in the past years and the incoming devices are increasing in functionality and are beginning to support more and more platforms and eventually these gadgets will somehow find a way to get congruent with each other and be able to communicate altogether with a catalyst to define and interpret their different formats and software applications into a single language.

Smartphones have increasingly become “smarter” over a small period of time and it is just a matter of time before new enhancements are brought in to enable these new doohickeys to mimic what a regular desktop PC can do. Thanks to the ever-growing number of developers of smartphones and other similar devices, their prices have gone down immensely and their functionality has been enhanced more and more. The battle now between smartphone and Android-powered phone manufacturers is to come up with the best average-priced mobile gadget with the most number of tasks done and the least amount of cost. Price wars have also erupted on the many wireless internet providers including Cricket, Leap Wireless, Boost Mobile, Sprint, and MetroPC5.

Advances in different applications have put smartphones and other similar devices on the forefront like for instance 3G connectivity, access to GPS services, and a host of other stuff which the laptop and music players are unable to do. Kindle apps have the capacity to watch a movie or read an e-book in one gadget and finish it in another.

And the rise of smartphone sales is undeniably huge. Apple has sold since April alone more than three million iPads and tablet sales are expected to overtake that of the desktop PC by the year 2013. An increasing number of access via the new gadgets instead of the laptops and regular computers have ushered in the belief that people have depended more on these mobile gadgets than the old school PC as was shown by the statistics on mobile searches for this year’s Super Bowl using mobile devices. People have started going for the smaller devices in watching their favorite games than going for the bigger desktop.
