Samsung SGH-a107 GoPhone For ATT Review

The Samsung SGH-a107 phone is a pre-paid cell phone available from AT&T for $29.99 without a contract. This basic phone is easy to use but its lack of external display and Bluetooth compatibility make it less than a great value for the money. Fans of pre-paid cell phone service can easily find a better phone at a lower price.

Not everyone wants to think of their cell phones as another member of the family and pre-paid phones are perfect for these people. One of the most basic phones offered through the AT&T GoPhone plan is the Samsung a107. This phone lacks the most common features included in other phones, such as a music player, Bluetooth, or camera.

This is not to say that the Samsung a107 is without its merits. It is decent as far as pre-paid basic level phones go. Despite, or perhaps because of, its lack of external display, tiny 1.43-inch screen, and volume rocker, this is one of the smallest versions of flip phone on the market. The phone does have a headset jack, speakerphone, a 500-entry phone book, and the ability to assign an image to a contact number for caller ID purposes. However, the lack of camera means that users can only select from the most basic graphics to identify their callers. The ability to assign one of 11 ringtones to a caller helps the situation a bit.

The phone supports both text and multimedia messaging and it includes a MediaNet Web browser. Users can download ringtones and graphics from the AppCenter that links to the AT&T MediaNet page. Gamers are out of luck when it comes to this phone because it does not have any games. When using the handset, call quality is normally good but sometimes marked by intermittent static. The speakerphone is less than adequate, characterized by echoes and hissing on the receiver’s end.

The Samsung SGH-a107 pre-paid phone sold by AT&T is the most basic of cell phones. It does not have an external display, volume adjustment, games, camera, music player, or Bluetooth. However, it does posses a headset jack and a speakerphone, although speakerphone performance is mediocre. Other features include a Web browser and ability to assign different graphics or ringtones to callers. The verdict is that at a cost of $29.99, a pre-paid phone user can find a much better device.
