The Samsung Exec caters to the audience mentioned in its name. It contains features well-suited to the corporate set like Bluetooth, 3G support, GPS, QWERTY keyboard, and great email support. Keeping its intended users in mind, it is surprising that the Exec does not have Wi-Fi. Users unfamiliar with Windows Mobile will find that it is sometimes awkward to navigate. Though this smartphone offered by U.S. Cellular is a good choice for basic business use, those who wear the true power ties might want to purchase an Android phone instead.
The Exec has an excellent QWERTY keyboard that is great for composing messages. The clear and bright QVGA display measures 2.4 inches that, though small, is surprisingly adequate for viewing emails and Web pages. This phone includes Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard Edition and supports Outlook, POP3, and IMAP email accounts. A useful wizard guides users through the process of setting up their email accounts on the Exec.
The Exec features GPS and supports several Bluetooth profiles. The Your Navigator location-based service is not supported by the Exec, but users can access text-based directions via the included Bing Web browser. The phone’s processor is speedy, making browsing and changing tasks a breeze.
The lack of integrated Wi-Fi is disappointing, but the Exec’s 3G support should make Wi-Fi unnecessary in most areas. The 2-megapixel camera and camcorder on the Exec is supplemented by a variety of editing options, but no flash. Even though this is not the most high-end camera, the picture quality is very clear and sharp.
The Samsung Exec smartphone is available from U.S. Cellular for $99.95 with a two year contract. The Exec has features that business people will love, including 3G support, GPS, Bluetooth, support for multiple email accounts, and an easy to use QWERTY keyboard. The phone performs well using 3G service but does not include the benefit of Wi-Fi. Those who are inexperienced with Windows Mobile may have a difficult time navigating through its features. Aside from these items, the average business user will find this phone a good choice. However, users who are more tied to their phones may prefer an Android device.
