At a cost of between $290 and $360 unlocked depending on retailer, the Nokia E75 is rather expensive for a cell phone. This smartphone has a very compact design, while still featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. It also has Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Aside from the cost, the main drawback of the E75 is its mediocre call quality.
The design of the Nokia E75 is refreshing for a smartphone because it has the best of both worlds. It is compact and actually looks like a phone, but at the same time, it features a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard buttons are large, but rather flat. Since they are relatively slip-free, their flatness does not present much of an issue. The screen is an adequate 2.4 inches and has a vibrant and sharp 16 million-color QVGA display.
The E75 switches from personal to business mode in a flash, providing instant access to all relevant applications. It features the Nokia Messaging client, which makes for a nice mobile e-mailing experience. The Quickoffice suite allows users to view and edit Excel, PowerPoint, and Word documents. Nokia’s Ovi Store provides users with access to a variety of apps.
Call quality on the E75 is characterized by buzzing and echoes and there are some volume issues with the speakerphone. For data purposes, supported bands are 850/1900MHz HSPDA. This will equate to the EDGE, not 3G, network through some carriers. The integrated Wi-Fi feature can be used to compensate for the cellular data connection. Additional features include GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, a media player that supports multiple file types, FM tuner, and Internet radio. The 3.2 megapixel camera features an LED flash, 8x digital zoom, some unique image edition options including red eye reduction, and video recording. The picture quality is clear but the videos appear a bit grainy.
Consumers will pay a hefty price to purchase this unlocked Nokia smartphone since it is not linked to any carrier. The highlights of the E75 are its design and huge amount of features including Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.2 megapixel camera, full QWERTY keyboard, plus additional functionality specific to business users. However, the poor call quality on this phone makes the steep price tag rather difficult to swallow.
