If there was ever a phone that was slightly ahead of its time, this is it. While the Android and iPhone are stealing all the headlines, the Nokia N900 will blow them out of the water, someday. Unfortunately, for Nokia, this phone is way ahead of itself and cannot full use of all of the features that it has. While there are some bright spots, the hefty price tag is hard to justify at this time. That may be a different story a year from now.
The best feature of this phone is the web browser. Simply put, it is the best on the market right now. If there was ever a phone that made web browsing similar to a desktop, this is it. In addition, the camera feature is top of the line. The 5 megapixels offer a huge upgrade over most phones and take some of the best shots that we have ever seen.
Everyday features, or at least what have come to be everyday features, are also exceptional. The phone multitasks with ease and keeps all function running quickly. The addition of the GPS system makes up for some of the shortcomings of the phone. It is also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capable.
Unfortunately, the phone does have some downsides that make it hard to put out the $589 asking price. The user interface can be brutal at times and really takes away from all the positives that this phone has to offer. There is also the fact that the app store is not even open at this time. It is like having a Corvette in the driveway with no gas and no keys. There is plenty of fun to be had; it is just missing a few things right now.
Overall, the phone is ideal for techies, but the everyday businessperson should wait before putting out this kind of cash. We are sure a lot of this will change over the next year or so, but this sexy slider will have to wait before we can put a thumbs up on it. Pass on it for now, but keep your eyes and ears open because this very well may be the phone to have in 2011.
