The recently released Motorola Droid 2 has a lot in common with the Motorola Droid X. Both are great phones that retail for around $200 but comparing these two smartphones reveals a few underlying differences. Which is the best smartphone is really a subjective decision based on user preferences.
Android 2.2 comes standard on the Droid 2, while the Droid X includes android 2.1. Version 2.2 includes support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 so that puts the Droid 2 a bit ahead of the game. That is, until the android 2.2 update is installed on the Droid X. This Droid X update began roll out on Wednesday.
The Droid X is a candy bar phone that sports a virtual keyboard. The Droid 2 is a slider that has a physical keyboard for those who prefer to type on real keys. Appearance-wise, the rest of the qualities are relatively similar. Even inside there are some similar attributes. Both use a 1 GHz Texas Instruments processor that allows the devices to function as a Wi-Fi hot spot. The hot spot feature costs an additional $20 monthly and features 3G, not DSL, speeds but it does allow up to five devices to be connected.
Both phones support video streaming to a home electronics device and both have 512 MB of RAM. The Droid 2 can accommodate a 32 GB microSD card, whereas the Droid X accommodates only a 16 GB card. Both devices have 8 GB of onboard memory storage capacity.
Smartphone comparisons of the Droid X and Droid 2 reveal that the key differences are an 8-megapixel camera on the Droid X versus 5-megapixels on the Droid 2. The Droid X has a 4.3-inch display, larger than the 3.7-inch screen on the Droid 2. These high-end smartphones are scheduled to include dual-core processors starting in 2011.
