Lenovo to Introduce Smartphone in Europe but No 3D Yet

by Ava on June 26, 2010

A top-selling PC manufacturer has recently confirmed its objective of introducing its own line of smartphones into the European market.  Lenovo, which has gained fame for its Thinkpad series of notebooks, has expressed its desire to capture a share in the growing market of mobile internet device phones within a span of one year.

Lenovo has expressed its interest in establishing a foothold on the mobile internet device phone market in Europe after what it considers as a great success in China.  Adrian Horne, Lenovo’s Media Relations Manager, said that “on a global basis, mobile internet is one of (our) key priorities.”  He explained that this is primarily spurred by the mobile internet market’s tremendous growth in China.

At the moment, the company is at the preparation stage for launching a new array of laptops in the following month.  This latest product from Lenovo called the IdeaPad is considered as the cheaper alternative to the other renowned brands in the laptop market.  Lenovo executive, however, said that although the IdeaPad series is less expensive, it can still compete with the other brands in terms of quality and features. They expect this new series to establish itself as a new European favorite.

When asked about plans of launching 3D-capable products in Europe this year, Horne admitted that the company still doe not have any plan of introducing its 3D laptop in the UK and continental Europe.  The company has already announced of bringing into the US market its 3D notebook, called the Lenovo Y560d.

Horne said 3D technology might be very advantageous when it comes to movies and video gaming but no so much when it comes to laptops.  Horne admitted that “in Europe though (we) have a very specific focus, so while the technology is very advanced the adoption rate (right now) is going to be very low.”  He explained further that being a “niche product” means that it has first to prove itself as acceptable to a certain sector.
