Telecom firm, Sprint, has just released the latest updates on the rules it provides for cell phone insurance claims. According to the company’s media relations executives, certain changes have been introduced in the rules in the aim of providing better service for its subscribers. As this develops, reports coming from the field also suggest that the changes implemented are getting positive feedbacks from the subscribers. Only very few people are said to have expressed apprehensions over these changes so far, a fact that Sprint officials say reflects general public’s acceptance of the changes.
With the said changes, Sprint expects the easier and faster application and processing of the insurance claim for units that are lost or stolen. The company has received complaints about phones whose services continue although these have been stolen already. Owners feel that they are victimized twice due to service continuation; first, because they were victims of theft and, second, because they have to pay for the bills of those who got their stolen phones. In order to put a stop to cases like these, Sprint officials have requested its subscribers to immediately contact them through a toll-free number so that services to their stolen or lost phones can be suspended promptly.
Sprint’s insurance coverage is provided by Asurion, one of the top insurance companies that have services dedicated to mobile phones. Asurion has asked Sprint subscribers who lost their phones due to any circumstance to make a claim within 60 days after the loss. This can be done by filing the claim online. Asurion or Sprint’s website can also be used for checking the status of the claim. Asurion’s customer care phone number has also been provided to Sprint subscribers, if they should decide to file the claim by phone. Through these means, both the telecom and insurance firms expect fewer complaints from people who have availed of their services.
Sprint executives admit that most of the claims that they process along with Asurion are not caused by theft or accidental loss. Damaged to the phones remains to be the most common reason why claims are being made. The executives, however, said that this is not due to current phone models’ general weakness but rather to the owners’ mishandling or abuse. Nevertheless, they also said that these may not be totally avoided as cell phones are primarily for mobile use, which make it vulnerable to such events. With this consideration, Sprint has set up a system that is expected to ensure fast processing and replacement for damaged devices. As soon as the claim is made, the company will send shipping materials to the claimant for the safe and efficient return of the device. Once the claim is approved, Sprint guarantees that a replacement will be sent immediately.
