Not wanting to be left out with the fast advance of mobile internet devices, Google-owned YouTube has enhanced its mobile website to make it more effective. The video sharing service’s website dedicated for mobile internet viewing has been adapted to appear better on devices such as the iPhone by Apple and Motorola’s Droid X. According to YouTube executives, the features added are expected improve smartphone users’ ability in browsing their website. They also said that the improvements can allow users to stream videos in higher resolutions.
YouTube is one of the world’s most favorite video service site. It serves hundreds of millions of internet users everyday. With the introduction of the smartphone and other mobile internet gadgets, YouTube users are on the rise and so does their frequency and length of time used. However, due to some weaknesses in YouTube’s site, one that was originally meant for computer viewing, modifications have been made to make it more applicable to mobile internet devices. The response among mobile internet users is mixed although many of them are elated. Others have expressed skepticism although some actually point out the smartphones’ weaknesses in video streaming.
Andrey Doronichev, YouTube’s product manager, has said that the new features added to their mobile website allow smartphone owners to use the site almost as nearly as the original website for PC viewing. This includes the privilege of expressing their reactions to the videos by clicking their response. Doronichev said that even as the modifications have been made, the site itself remains easy to navigate by users. He said that YouTube is compelled to further introduce more innovations in its website to make it more adapted to mobile internet browsing. He admitted that their company is conscious that with the proliferation of smartphones and the introduction of new and more powerful gadgets, internet users are fast becoming mobile.
The weblog, TechCrunch, has said that m.youtube.com is a welcome and much appreciated development. It considers the newly added features as valuable in providing a smoother user interface while the load time is also much improved. The adapted website for mobile internet uses and abundance of HTML 5 features that includes a video tag. TechCrunch notices that what makes it really remarkable is the excellent quality of the video it provides when compared to inherent applications such as that of iPhone. The improved YouTube mobile site is now widely available.
