We are living in a modern world where computers are becoming an everyday tool. Almost all aspects of our society today rely on computers for aid. With the advent of internet, mobile internet devices like laptops, smartphones, and tablet PCs were introduced into the market. The laptop, for example, is widely popular due to its portability and its mobile internet access. Laptops have become an essential mobile internet gadget for most people especially for professionals and students. Although laptops are expensive in compared to desktop computers, nothing is comparable to its portability which increases the productivity of most people since it can be used almost anywhere and also for its ability to provide instant access through the mobile internet. However, a laptop is like a car. It requires maintenance to keep it running in its peak performance.
There are many ways to improve the performance of your laptop. You can start with startup. If your operating system takes too long in starting up, you can disable programs that are not needed to run all the time. These unwanted programs (at least at startup) may have settings that enable it to start when your computer starts up, you must disable this. Another way is to update your laptop’s drivers and software. These updates provide new features and boost the performance of your system. You can look for updates in manufacturer’s websites if your program doesn’t have an autoupdate function.
Maintaining your hard drive can also help boost your laptop’s performance. Operating systems usually come with built-in system tools for maintaining your hard drive like disk defragmenter and disk clean-up for Windows. You also schedule these tools to run as tasks than can be done regularly depending on your preference. Removing spyware, pop-ups and unwanted programs can also improve performance. Getting a decent security and firewall protection can help you with this. You can also try removing programs that you no longer use to free up your hard drive. You may also want clear cookies and browser history.
Upgrading your hardware can also improve laptop performance. Upgrading your RAM can definitely increase the performance. Having more RAM means the lesser you have to use your hard drive for running big programs which may usually slow your system. Also if you have Windows Vista, you can try turning off the Windows Animation since this can slow your laptop’s performance. You can also try disabling the Sidebar gadgets if you can do without them.
