Three Mobile Introduces Mi-Fi Service

Three Mobile has just recently launched a service using a new technology that is expected to take the place of Wi-Fi and the ordinary mobile broadband. Aptly called ‘Mi-Fi’, it allows mobile internet users to achieve the optimum connectivity. It allows users to connect a maximum of five devices to a wireless network hub. Designed as a dongle, the Mi-Fi is small enough to be carried in a person’s pocket. Three Mobile’s executive boasts that despite its size, its capability is similar to those bigger non-wireless hubs. They also said that the device can benefit internet users who want the benefit more from the web even as they are on the go.

The Mi-Fi is essentially a small wireless router that can be uses as a center for a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. It connects to a cellular data network in order to access the internet. As a local Wi-Fi, it can then link to maximum of five laptops and other mobile internet devices. The maximum distance for Wi-Fi connectivity can reach about 10 meters. There are cases when the distance can be farther although the signal may also become weaker. The Mi-Fi is gradually becoming more accepted by many people as it solves the usual problems of Wi-Fi inadequacies and absence of wireless internet facilities.

Three Mobile has guaranteed that its subscribers will not have any difficulty in using the Mi-Fi and accessing the internet through their wireless and mobile devices. Paying for the date received while accessing the web is rendered simple by the company. The data is bought in the same manner as subscribers would acquire a contract on mobile phone services. However, a minimal fee is required in order to own a dongle. Payment for the internet services can be done through a monthly post-paid contract or on prepaid or ‘pay as you go’ methods. Three Mobile subscribers may opt for a monthly plan at the lowest rate of £9.50. For those who prefer prepaid accounts, it will be £179.99 which also includes an 8GB iPod Touch.

According to Three Mobile executives, they have seen the increasing sales of their Mi-Fi services. During the early phase of their promotions, the sales were still a bit slow. They explained to be caused by the internet users’ lack of appreciation for the need of mobile access. As more software are developed to fit mobile internet gadgets though, people have become increasingly interested in achieving convenience in internet connectivity even if they are in remote locations. The introduction of more advanced mobile internet devices has led to the demand by consumers that wireless internet service providers establish improved connectivity. Three Mobile’s response to this demand is the introduction of the Mi-Fi.
