Acer is a name that many of us are familiar with because of the incredible value that they offer in the computer world. Their monitors are a wonderful bargain, but their computers have always left a little to be desired. However, you can never argue with the price and for bargain hunters, sometimes the step down is worth the fact that you are getting their products at hundreds less than bigger name brands.
The Acer Liquid was disappointing right off the bat because of the price. As of this review, it was selling for just under $400. That kind of price tag is not exactly a discount. Because of the low cost of their monitors and laptops, we made the wrong assumption that their phones would present the same bargain. It is pretty astonishing that you have purchase a laptop and monitor together for less than the cost of one of their phones.
The phone has multiple applications that are already loaded into the phone and that gives it a few points. It also has a very attractive look to it that will turn a few heads. It handles all the basic BLUETOOTH needs and also features GPS capabilities. However, these are all pretty standard features on smartphones these days and we were still waiting for something to justify this price tag.
Touch screen phones get a lot of bad press and this one does not help their cause. At times, it was as though we were almost punching the screen to get it to respond. While we do not like touch screens to be overly sensitive, this was a bit too far the other way. It is also a bit slow, even though it hits the Web on the 3g network.
Overall, the phone is just not that impressive. As soon as we saw the name, we thought we would get a respectable Android platform phone at reasonable price and this was anything but that. For under $200, the phone would get a strong recommendation, but in this price range, it needs to deliver a lot more. A company that has built their reputation on quality at a bargain price has overstepped their boundaries here. There are just too many phones in the same price range or slightly higher that are better all the way around.
