Never has communication been this easy since the advent of the internet. Information is being transferred from one entity to another with great ease and speed. Gone were the days when you have to wait for days, nay, even weeks in some parts of the world to receive news on anything that is happening in another part of the world. In fact, a few decades back, even the newspaper is delayed by a day or two in some parts of the world.
But that has greatly changed when the internet was introduced to all of us. One can talk to a relative or a friend in another part of the globe in what is termed in the electronics world as "real-time", which actually means no time delay. Even company conferences are done without anybody leaving their own country and this has been made possible through the powers of the internet.
Man has invented many ways to connect to the internet and at the onset, it was the very slow dial up internet service connection. But modern times have caught up and now, one would be able to access the worldwide web via cable, Wi-Fi, and 3G. The last two accesses are actually very convenient because it allows internet entry without the restricting features of wires and cables. The internet has really been truly accessible to almost everyone.
However, at the very recent Nokia World 2010 Conference, none other than the worldwide web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee warned of a failure and the probability of the total loss of the web as we know it if people forget the essence and let go of NetNeutrality. NetNEutrality is the basis in the treatment of everything in the worldwide web as equal, no special favors. And quoting the inventor, he said, “The moment you let NetNeutrality go, you lose the web as it is. You lose something essential; the fact that any innovator can dream up an idea and start a website at some random place and let it take off through word of mouth. You can end up helping humanity and make a profit out of it once you have a domain name."
Sir Tim Berners-Lee emphasized the importance of allowing people especially those in the developing countries. The predicament of those living in these places is that sometimes, the interim government has put up taxes that are almost restrictive that it is very costly to maintain an internet access subscription. And the inventor suggests that it would be better if they are given access even to the not so speedy mobile internet bandwidth just so that they would be able to keep abreast with the times.
