The Sanyo Zio M6000 may not be a phone you have heard of because it is sold by Cricket Wireless. This carrier is not available in all areas of the U.S. The phone retails for $249 and features good call quality and user-friendly design. With its low-quality external speaker and android 1.6 platform, this is not the best smartphone. However, it is an excellent first smartphone that includes essential features.
Though this phone contains android 1.6, performance is good. The price is not necessarily budget-friendly, but the device can be purchased for $229 if bought online and no contract is required. In addition, Cricket offers a $55 per month unlimited data, voice, and text plan. Though this is not one of the smartphones that will turn heads, it is a good basic android device.
The Zio features a candy bar design and a 3.5-inch touch screen display. The resolution is great, considering this is a low-end smartphone. The display includes an accelerometer and features vibrant graphics and colors. There are three home screens to populate with custom folders, wallpaper, and widgets. Users operate the trackball to navigate through functions and commands. The virtual QWERTY keyboard resembles that of other android smartphones.
Included are a microSD card slot, 3.2-megapixel camera, camcorder, 3.5mm headset jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB storage, PC syncing, and voice commands. The standard 1.6 music player supporting multiple file formats is included. Users can also sync their various email accounts, access the Android Market, or use included Google apps.
Smartphone ratings give the Sanyo Zio M6000 3 ½ out of 5 stars. It features good call quality and supports 3G EV-DO within the home network and when roaming. The data speeds for graphically-rich sites are slow but other sites load quicker. The shrill external speakers and fact that it includes android 1.6 are what make Zio ownership less than ideal.
