The Palm Pixi Plus is Verizon’s upgrade to the Sprint Palm Pixi. The Pixi Plus offers more connectivity options than its little sister, with integrated Wi-Fi and the capability to use the phone as a Wi-Fi router. Palm’s WebOS is a joy to use, but the phone can be slow at times, making the experience a bit less exciting. The camera on this phone is its major shortcoming, featuring poor picture quality and no options for image editing.
The built-in Wi-Fi feature of the Pixi Plus is its greatest improvement from the Palm Pixi. Verizon Wireless subscribers may also take advantage of the Palm Mobile Hotspot app. This will allow the Pixi Plus to be used as a Wi-Fi router and allow up to five devices to share the mobile broadband connection when users subscribe to Verizon’s 3G Hotspot plan. All of this in addition to supporting 3G service means that getting connected will never be an issue.
The rather sluggish performance of the Pixi Plus will turn away many diehard smartphone fans. However, since the phone is easy to use and includes all necessary features plus a few extra bonuses, it is the perfect match for first-time smartphone users. The phone features a multitouch screen, sharp display, and QWERTY keyboard. Value-added features include Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and Google Maps, thanks to the device’s WebOS.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment is this phone’s two-megapixel camera. It has a flash, but the picture quality is poor, yielding images that tend to either be blown out by the flash or dark and grainy without its use. There are also no image editing options, which is surprising considering that even feature phones now contain these features.
Drawbacks of the Palm Pixi Plus include its somewhat delayed response when changing tasks or launching apps and its less than robust camera. On the positive side, the built-in Wi-Fi capability on the Palm Pixi Plus makes this a great phone to use for connectivity purposes. At a post-rebate cost of $29.99 through Verizon, this phone is the perfect choice for feature phone users looking to venture into the world of smartphones.
