The LG Expo for AT&T is the ideal smartphone for the business user. With both power and style, this well- designed and well-performing phone retails for $199.99 through AT&T. The highlights of the Expo are its QWERTY keyboard, sharp display, and features like Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi, and GPS. The lack of both a 3.5mm headphone jack and a dedicated button for the Start menu are the Expo’s major shortcomings.
The Expo offers a wealth of features in a nicely designed little package. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard and 3.2-inch resistive touch screen are adequately sized. However, due to Expo’s smaller screen size compared to its larger smartphone competitors, frequent use of the stylus is required. The drawback of this is that the stylus is not housed within the phone and needs to be attached to the phone via a lanyard.
The 1GHz Snapdragon processor makes operation of the Expo responsive and smooth but not always lightening fast. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.5 with LG’s S-Class interface. Windows 6.5 includes the Microsoft Office Suite making the phone’s optional projector accessory a great companion device. The Windows Marketplace for Mobile offers a wide variety of apps for every type of user. Wireless connectivity is not an issue with Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS functionality on board.
The Expo comes equipped with both a Windows Media Player and LG’s own version of player. The device’s audio jack allows regular headphones to be plugged in to the Expo using the provided adapter. However, like the stylus housing, this is another rather cumbersome solution. Rounding out the media experience, the Expo’s 5-megapixel camera features a flash, 3x digital zoom, and video recording ability. Picture quality is clear but some images appear rather gray and dull.
The LG Expo packs a lot of features into a zippy smartphone including sharp clear touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera with video recording, Windows Mobile 6.5, and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The only two minor annoyances regarding this phone are the lack of 3.5mm headset jack and on-board housing for the stylus. Overall, the Expo is one of the best Windows smartphones on the market.
