If the $660 price tag and the huge size of this phone do not deter you, then you will likely find that the HTC HD2 is the best Windows Mobile phone on the market. However, the unlocked version does not support U.S. 3G so wait until T-Mobile has the phone back in stock. Smartphone lovers will surely not be disappointed by the HD2.
By far, the greatest aspect of the HTC HD2 is its capacitive touch screen that measures a whopping 4.3 inches and features multitouch support. The display is sharp and vibrant and includes the ability to alternate between portrait and landscape modes. Huge screen equates to huge phone, with the HD2 measuring almost five inches tall by just over 2 ½ inches wide. However, this phone packs a huge amount of features into a device that is only 0.43 inch thick.
HD2’s virtual keyboard is both spacious and easy to use, thanks to the phone’s large display. When not typing emails or text messages, users can explore the wide variety of Windows Mobile apps like Microsoft Office Mobile Suite, Windows Media Player, and Internet Explorer Mobile. This phone includes the HTC Sense user experience that allows easy navigation through apps.
The autofocus, video-recording, dual LED flash, and standard photo editing features of this phone’s 5 megapixel camera do not disappoint. The picture quality is good even in dim lighting and video clips are decent overall, though some scenes may have a slightly fuzzy appearance. Other multimedia highlights include an HTC media player that is much more intuitive than its Windows counterpart.
The HD2 has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that makes the phone navigate quickly and smoothly. The Windows Mobile experience is pleasurable, but the forthcoming Windows Phone 7 series will determine whether this phone remains appealing. The phone’s recent arrival at T-Mobile makes 3G support a reality. Despite the huge screen and long list of fabulous features, the price of this phone may serve as a deterrent for many consumers.
