The HTC Droid Incredible has risen to the top of Verizon’s smartphone list and it is easily the best Android device on the market. These are big claims, but they are supported by super-fast 3G speed, HTC Sense-enhanced Android 2.1, eight gigabytes of internal memory, and an 8-megapixel camera. Standard features, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, are just gravy.
What’s in a name? When it comes to the HTC Droid Incredible, a lot. The overall performance of this smartphone is, well, incredible. The 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of both RAM and ROM make the Droid Incredible’s responsiveness and speed number one when ranking Android devices. Adding the user-friendly HTC Sense software to the Android 2.1 platform was a smart move by HTC. It provides a large number of features including a Leap screen that allows users to view all home screen panels as thumbnails.
This capacitive touch screen on this smartphone features a very large and beautiful high-resolution display. Screen orientation automatically changes from portrait to landscape as required, courtesy of the phone’s built-in accelerometer. HTC even took pains to develop its own on-screen keyboard with larger buttons than the standard Android keyboard.
Features such as GPS, integrated Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth all perform well. It is good that this phone includes Wi-Fi capabilities, because a Wi-Fi connection is required in order to use data and voice simultaneously. The phone’s video and music players are adequate but, aside from the FM radio, rather boring. The multimedia highlight of this phone is its 8-megapixel camera that includes dual LED flash and takes clear, sharp pictures.
At a cost of $199.99 with a two year Verizon Wireless contract, the speedy HTC Droid Incredible is well worth the cost. This feature-packed phone will do just about everything imaginable and do it fast. Therefore, it is surprising the phone does not accommodate simultaneous voice and data usage and contains a less than stellar multimedia experience. These are small tradeoffs, but not enough to de-throne the Droid Incredible from its reigning position.
