Mobile Internet Technology CDMA, RCom Reaches Enormous Subscriber Threshold

by Jerry1973 on March 18, 2010

A major announcement in mobile internet technology cdma was made by Reliance Communications (RCom) on March 15, 2010. The company has said that it now has over 100 million customers, a feat that only one other operator can claim. Not only is RCom claiming 100 million but is also publicly stating that their goal is to add a second 100 million in three years.

RCom is relatively junior in the telecom trade and captured these customers in a scant seven years. In announcing the goal to reach 200 million, Chairman Anil Ambani promised great innovations and services with an overarching customer focus. The company’s announcement statement was couched in marketing terms, 100 million more customers within 1000 days.

RCom is poised for expansion in both its GSM and CDMA mobile broadband networks. Like Google and Cisco, RCom plans to offer a broadband network with speeds that were unimagined even a year ago. Within 100 days, this company plans to rollout this broadband network to 60 cities or more. If successful, they will have 125 total cities using their mobile service.

The company rolled out its mobile service division in 2003 and now joins only three other providers in the world to have over 100 million customers in one country. India’s wireless subscription rates are growing at a pace unparalleled with any other nation in the world. Customers are signing up at the rate of close to 20 million every month.  At the end of January 2010, 545 million Indian citizens are now wireless subscribers.

RCom is looking to the market in mobile technology cdma to be a growth and profit leader in the corporation’s future.  They have recently ventured into providing GSM service in pan-India too. They see both of the technologies as avenues to advance revenue growth and profitability, at least for the next 1000 days.
