Before, phones were used as a means to communicate via voice with other people where phones and phone connectivity service is available. And then the cellular phone came and it allowed wireless voice communication everywhere you go. Ultimately, the cellular phone got better and it featured many telecommunication advances such as file storage, full color screen, and inevitably, internet connectivity. However, there were limitations to the interface being shown on the mobile phone screens. Because of its limitation in size and viewable capacity, the mobile phone had to use a different software to be able to project websites on their screen which is a bit different from the full size personal computer screen.
But now, mobile internet allows full view of anything on the worldwide web from a mobile device such as a tablet PC, a Smartphone, or a regular laptop and home personal computer.
A mobile internet device is anything that can be used to surf the web while being mobile at the same time. Generally, it should be hand held. Mobile Internet device allows real-time sharing and two-way communication and is generally larger than the regular phone. They are commonly referred to as the gadget in between tablet personal computers and smartphones. Before , these gadgets were basically used for personal purposes but as of late, companies have gone on the idea of keeping in contact with what is happening in the office or outside with the use of mobile internet.
As expected, being easier to access and because it can be carried almost anywhere, in 2008, mobile internet usage exceeded internet access by desktop based computers.
Although mobile internet devices has its limits like the regular usability issues such as limited resolution screens and user input limitations, it still is the best way to keep up with communicating wherever you are. Mobile internet on the laptop can be accessed through integrated means such as the use of an independent device, the most widely used being the UCB modem or the PCMCIA card. Some even use “tethering” which means using mobile phones as the connector to the internet via the laptop, for better viewing capabilities. The wireless technology utilized by the mobile phone in connecting to the internet would be one of these three: CSD, GPRS, or the very famous 3G.
Going back in recent mobile internet history, the very first successful attempt to connect to the internet through the use of a mobile device was done in 1996 using a Nokia 9000 Communicator phone in Finland. And the very first commercial mobile internet browser sold to the market was in Japan in 1999 using a technology called i-mode which was launched by NTT DoCoMo. And the software sued to interpret web pages back then was called XHTML.
