While most countries are still trying to develop a much faster 3G mobile internet service, Malaysia is now leading among the few who are into 4G high-bandwidth service. This development is made possible by YTL Communications, a company based in the Southeast Asian country. YTL Communications has invested several millions of dollars in its aim to set up a 4G network. With the support of other telecom, information technology, and computer hardware giants, such as Samsung, Intel, and Cisco it hopes to gain headway at the end of the year. According to many observers of this particular market, at the rate that the implementation is going on, the YTL Communication’s projections for this year have become attainable.
The role of the IT firms involved in YTL’s efforts is to provide the software infrastructure as well as the technical know-how related to its operation. However, in a bid to inform more people about their much improved products and services, YTL has also partnered with Singaporean firm Bartle Bogle Hagerty for the marketing aspect. The company has seen the importance of effective marketing as potential customers still have to appreciate well the advantages offered to them by the 4G network. With Bartle Bogle Hegarty’s expertise in marketing campaigns, YTL hopes that more people will decide to shift to the much faster 4G instead of sticking it out with the older and slower 3G.
There have been 4G services sprouting in other parts of the world, especially in the bigger countries such as the United States and Russian. However, these have not developed into having much wider coverage. It is only in Malaysia that a telecom firm has attempted to make a nation-wide 4G service. This is indeed a breakthrough in the mobile internet service market, one that deserves the rest of the world’s observation and, later, emulation. BBH, for its part, has guaranteed YTL of the best marketing campaigns in order to make the current 4G efforts successful.
Malaysia has one of the highest mobile phone ownership rates in the world. Statistics show that almost the entire population owns mobile phones with even a significant number possessing more than one of these devices. The Malaysian people have also been known to make use of the internet capabilities of their mobile phones. Under such conditions of the market, many expect YTL’s 4G network to succeed as Malaysians will surely avail of such services through their cell phones or other mobile internet devices.
