Orbitel using Elephant Talk’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator platform has reportedly swelled its customer’s database in the past few weeks across Spain with a wide range of services like lower rates for international phone calls. This database is comprised of Latin Americans who are generally based in Spain.
This linkage with Elephant Talk, a leading provider of business software and services to telecommunication corporations worldwide, and Orbitel, the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator which is hosted by Vizzavi Espana SL, a Vodafone Group Company has proved to be one of the most successful in the Iberian soil in the past years.
Originally, Orbitel, a subsidiary of Colombian Operator UNE UNE and a member of the state-owned Group 'Empresas Publicas de Medellin' (EPM) gave telecommunication service to the Spanish market centering to the Latin Americans living in the area. With the agreement between its host Vizzavi Espana SL and Elephant Talk to use Elephant Talk’s high-edge Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Platform to offer voice and data services to the Vodafone network in Spain.
After the agreement, Orbitel was first distributed with the select retailers like El Corte Ingles, one of the biggest department stores in Spain. The preliminary introduction of Orbitel was specialized since it should target a specific ethnic channel and demographic group.
Since then, the number of subscribers has increased rapidly which proved that the agreement between VIzzavi Espana SL and Elephant talk was a big success. The CTO of Elephant Talk Martin Zuurbier posted that it was expected that the introduction of Orbitel to the Spanish market was a big hit since it had to be centered in the special group of ethnic and demographic consumers in Spain. As a matter of fact, 94% of the two million Latin Americans residing in Spain have mobile phones but, sadly, only 6% percent are using it to call their own countries because of higher rates such calls entail.
But with Orbitel’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator Platform, this is made possible. Surely, with the wide array of services provided like friends and family products, super on-net promotions, direct connection with bank ATM systems, and other services with regard to the full MVNO platform and integrated IN/CRM/Billing capabilities.
Managing Director Europe Oorbitel, Santiago Londono stressed that with the use of Elephant Talk’s MVNO platform, Orbitel gained ahuge chunk of market share with the Latin Americans in the telecommunications arena of Spain. In fact, Orbitel could offer other services to valued subscribers like international phone calls to their countries of origin at lower costs. Aside from the fact that Orbitel had helped people who are far away from home to build connections, Orbitel had reached its calculated sales in seven months lesser than the two-year time frame.
