For those who are not aware, Google Chrome is a Google-developed Web browser. Google offers a Chrome to Phone extension that allows Android handset users to get automatic text snippet and link transfers from the Chrome browser. The fact that this functionality was available only for mobile devices on Android platforms left iOS device users out in the cold.
These folks can now rejoice because the Chrome to iPhone extension has been released. Apple iPad and iPhone users simply install the extension on their devices and can then send Web pages being viewed in Chrome to their iOS mobile equipment. Since this is a clone product, it is not as deeply integrated as the extension that Google itself built for Android device users. However, it is certainly better than emailing the links to yourself, a fact to which many iOS users will attest.
The main difference between this new extension, developed by Tom Lerendu, and the original is that the app shortcuts and links do not automatically start the application or browser. Users have to save the personalized link into their Safari bookmarks or the home screen on their iOS device. They then click on that link to launch the browser and arrive at the desired Web page.
Mozilla Firefox also has a solution in the form of its Home iPhone app. This app allows Firefox users to access the tabs currently open in a desktop browser from their iOS device. Users can also access their browsing history and the bookmarks saved on their desktop computers. This makes mobile Internet use even more convenient for those who need to access Web-based information quickly from their Apple devices.
No longer are iOS users lagging behind the curve when it comes to shortcuts for mobile broadband use. Thanks to products like the Chrome to iPhone extension and Mozilla’s Home iPhone app, they can access selected links and text snippets quickly and easily. As more people flock to purchase devices based on iOS platforms, developers will surely begin working on additional conveniences.
