Connecting to the internet while on the move is now easier because of mobile broadband connections. Mobile broadband providers offer internet access at high speed from anywhere, any time. However, while deciding which mobile broadband provider to go for, there are several important things to keep in mind.
Some of the best providers in the US today are AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint. All of these have different services and different charges.

Download limit
The most important factor to consider before signing up for an account is the download limit. This is the amount of data which you would be able to download as per the plan. This could typically range anywhere between 1GB to around 5 GB per month.
You should first decide how and how much you would want to use the internet. Those who only want to use the connection for checking and replying their emails should go for a 1 GB plan since it would be sufficient. However, those who also want to watch videos and want to use the social networks would need a 5 GB limit every month.

Coverage
Ensure that the mobile broadband provider does have coverage in the area or the places where you intend to use the connection in the future. Today, most service providers in the US have decent coverage and provide connections which can be used almost in any part of the country.
Speed of the connection
Another important factor to consider is the speed of the connection. Consider again the purpose of using the mobile broadband. For watching videos or for using any heavy applications, you would need a connection which has a decent speed. There are several different packages available with different service providers.
Contract term
Mobile broadband providers have contract terms and long term deals which can be anywhere from 12 months to 24 months and these contracts are the best way to get low prices. Several times, these contracts would also have special offers like freebies or a laptop so it is a good idea to consider these.
There are also pay as you go plans where the user has to pay only for the amount of usage and is perfect for those who only have to sparingly use the connection.
Modem
The adapter or the modem would be the device which would allow the user to connect to the internet from the laptop. There could be two types of adapters which would be available with the connections, a USB and a PCMCIA.
The USB would have to be plugged into the USB port of the laptop while the PCMCIA would have to be slid in into a PCMCIA slot on the laptop. Most of the providers provide a USB adapter with their connections.
