A huge fight comes knocking at iPad’s doors, and it is about to get some ugly company.
Samsung recently revealed its Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch Android powered slate that is rumored to blow the iPad down. Although there has been a lot of buzz about the creation of Android tablets for quite some time, Samsung’s Galaxy is the undeniably the very first high end Android tablet that is in the market today. That being said, it is without a doubt the first and perhaps the toughest challenger to Apple’s phenomenal iPad.
While the iPad had a very great head start as far the world of tablets is concerned, Galaxy’s release could mark the end of its glorious days. On top of that, Android has also been silently attacking the Smartphone market which means that Apple is about to have a tough fight ahead.
Unlike iPad grand and dramatic public release, information and other details of Samsung’s Galaxy tab slithered to the spotlight slowly but surely. It boasts of a 7-inch display, not to mention a fresh feature of a front-facing camera ideal for video chatting that will run on Android 2.2, which is the latest edition of Google’s powerful mobile operating systems.
The Galaxy tab supports a 1 GHz processor and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The tablet’s display is AMOLED, with 1024 by 600 resolution. Aside from that, the Galaxy also has a built-in GPS system.
When it comes to connectivity and internet capability, the new Samsung Galaxy tab features both 3G and Wi-Fi data on top of the regular phone calling functionality. But, it keeps getting better! The Galaxy definitely tips the balance off of iPad’s favor when it offers Bluetooth, a screen altering light sensor, support for both DMI and USB, 16GBs or 32GBs of Flash memory and up to 32GBs of memory expansion via microSD.
When you put iPad side by side with the Samsung Galaxy, you will notice that iPad has a 9.7 inch screen with 1024 by 768 resolution. It has no cameras, although it has GPS when you go for the iPad that costs $629 and up 3G version. It runs on 1GHz processor and like the Apple’s other mobile products, the iPad is currently in the market under the wing of AT&T. The Galaxy runs under Verizon.
One of the strongest features that the Galaxy has over the iPad is its open ecosystem. While Apple’s App Store may have a wider selection compared to the Android Market, Samsung’s Galaxy lets you to virtually anything you want, without any approval necessary. So there are no censorships like political satire, celebrity cartoons, and even Porn. But no, you are not vulnerable or at any risk for all sorts of viruses out there in the virtual universe.
