iPad Made Friendly By VMware

Since Apple has decided to stick with its own unique platform (which in reality gave it an edge over the other platforms in terms of distinctiveness and exclusivity, a top reason why people buy Mac products) and Android phones and other devices have also come up with their own platforms and OS, IT departments all over the world are challenged as to how to consolidate all the files in the office so that it would be accessible to all types of platforms, not just Microsoft-based computers. And so coming up with a tool that will enable anyone to access all available files regardless of the platform he or she is engaged in.

For many years, VMware has been experimenting on tools that will make things easier the management of different devices using different platforms since it is known to all that people use whatever platform they want based on comfort of use, speed, status, and a lot of personal reasons. And these are the same gadgets people bring along on business meetings and other corporate gatherings, and even if people already know that majority uses desktop-friendly files, it has not stopped people from purchasing computers and other gadgets that do not support Microsoft files.

Aside from Apple machines such as the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, other devices such as other smartphones and Android devices have entered the information storage and access world and a huge percentage of people now use these items in the workplace. And the challenge now comes to the IT departments in making sure that whatever device is being used matches with the company’s access codes and they dare is to be able to attach into these devices the right security and software as provided by the company. And the task gets even harder for the IT department because these devices get upgraded or a newer version comes every so often.

Project Horizon is the name of the service VM ware is now experimenting on which intends to set up “cloud identities” for a specific user, a username and most likely a password unique to the user which will allow him or her access to whatever is needed using whatever platform he or she is currently using. So whether one is using an iPad or an iPhone or a PC, using the cloud identity will allow them right to use and access to whatever file is available.
