iPad Is Breaking Age Barriers

by Ava on September 3, 2010

Contrary to popular belief, the iPad is not designed or does not only serve the purpose of a few elite people. The iPad was not conceived with the computer geeks, young urban professionals, and the financially elite few in mind. In fact the iPad is a very simplified version of a computer browser, hence it can be used by practically everyone, children, teen, executives, parents, and yes, even your granddaddies and grandmommies.

And since the iPad is made to be used by almost everyone because of its very simple features, learning to use the gadget is amazingly easy (even though at first it would seem to be a complicated device) with its straightforward commands without any hidden menus or buttons.

I once worked for Microsoft supporting its dial up internet service and I noticed that most of the subscribers that we had were grandparents and they use the internet service for games and other fun activities on the internet, and the same kind of fun and even more, is provided by the iPad such as sharing photos, playing games, and giving complete access to the emails. Admittedly, our elders are not that computer savvy but the iPad’s functionalities and features would actually be very helpful to people who are not that proficient in the use of computers.

One does not need to click and double click on a command mouse or look for any external controller or button that will allow access to the main screen. The only thing that the user has to focus on is the ten inch touch screen or panel which where everything is at and nowhere else. Whatever is on the screen is what you can use, no hidden or covered menus, no special buttons, you just touch the commands and icons on the screen and off you proceed to whatever you want to do on the iPad.

Of course, to be able to master the use of the iPad will still be a learning process but it is not as complicated as trying to know how to use the basic commands of a regular desktop Windows or even a Mac. And since you touch the tasks on the screen, there is no need for any special command such as CTRL+Alt+Del and the like. Just touch what you want on the screen and it is as simple as that.

To add to this, all the simple pleasures of our elders are actually encapsulated on the iPad’s capabilities such as reading tons of reading online materials such as eBooks, internet magazines, emails, looking at and sharing photos and videos, crossword puzzles, and email correspondences. And to top this, the texts can even be enlarged to your elders’ liking.
