According to recent figures, iPad proves to be extremely popular with older buyers. It is the only one gadget that had helped bring computing to senior citizens, a group which is mostly and usually overlooked by technology marketers. But who can blame them? You would not really expect the creative department of some multinational gadget company to think about your grandmother.
But hey, Apple did.
For most technology marketers and companies, older consumers present a challenging learning curve compared to traditional computers. However, iPad’s intuitive interface makes it appealing to senior citizens in every corner of the world.
According to one researcher at the University of Tokyo, the reason why iPad has gained the nods of the elderly is because of its forgiving nature – the iPad is a greatly advanced tool that is exceptionally forgiving of mistakes. Unlike the regular traditional computer that we have at home for years, the iPad does not really require prior knowledge to operate.
Another great thing is that, because the iPad is relatively brand new when it comes to mainstream industry and tablet technology, senior citizens are actually on equal footing with their children and their grandchildren. Everyone is so amazed by the iPad, young and old alike. That means that the conditions are just perfect for the iPad to be a shared learning experience across all generations.
There are several reasons why the elderly have been recently hooked with the iPad. Her are some of them:
• One computer store owner, 95, said that he plans to buy an iPad in order to keep up with his junior staff and members. Nothing is more important than trying new things, because if you don’t, you get left behind.
• A retired salesman bought an iPad in order to help him stay in touch with his 2-year old grandson. Trying new things and learning to use new “toys” is a good mental exercise.
• One reverend also adored the size and the portability of the iPad. His reason for buying the iPad is because it is a very great source of news and entertainment.
• A retired architect also finds the iPad the summary of the three things that most senior citizens have these days – time, money and curiosity. Every retired worker has all these, which is why the iPad feels good in their hands.
• A grandmother of three also finds the iPad very convenient. Since old age comes with deteriorating eyesight and shorter patience, reading the news in a much wider screen makes everything a lot simpler.
