Google Introduces New Gmail Features for iPad Use

by Ava on September 8, 2010

iPad owners who have Google Gmail accounts can now have more convenience as they browse their emails though their tablets. This update has been made in response to the demands of Gmail account holders to make the application more user-friendly on their mobile internet devices.  Prior to this development, another email app has made adjustments to satisfy its account owners.  Yahoo has also just recently come up with a version of Yahoo Mail that is based on HTML 5 and is specifically adapted to the iPad environment.  In an apparent move to provide Gmail account owners the same benefit, Google made the well accepted adjustments.

Before this new feature came into being though, individuals who want to open their emails have to experience the inconvenience of dealing with multiple conversations.  The browser had to use separate but the same toolbars in managing the selected conversations as well as the ones opened previously.  This makes the entire browsing process quite confusing and oftentimes encouraging the iPad user to just close the other conversations instead.  For those who have been very much accustomed to browsing their Gmail accounts on PC’s, using the iPad for the same task can be very daunting.  Consequently, such situation discourages many people to open and read their emails on their Gmail accounts using the Apple tablet.

The update that Google introduced, however, does not affect much the manner that iPad users browse on their Gmail accounts.  What it does though is to get rid of the multiple conversation issues of the old email app by replacing it with stacked cards style.  This means that users no longer have to bear the confusion that comes with task of opening and managing so many conversations with only two toolbars.  Once they open their Gmail accounts, they can immediately see their emails displayed to them in the manner of stacked cards.  They only have to touch on each card if they wish to read the email’s contents.  This feature also allows them to determine more easily which among the emails should be saved or be deleted.

Another set of unique features that the updated Gmail for iPad has is the CSS3 transitions.  This allows HTML elements to be rendered or modified into 2D and 3D.  However, this particular feature has yet to gain appreciation by many Gmail account owners.  As of the moment, what has brought them to elation is still the stacked cards appearance of the conversations.
