Dell Comes Up with 7-Inch Tablet Using Android OS

by Ava on September 24, 2010

Flash warning for the iPad because here come Dell with its impending launch of its newest seven inch tablet that utilizes the Android operating system developed by Google. Everything is still hush-hush as to the full details of the new Dell tablet and even Michael Dell, Chief Operating Officer of Dell, Inc., just showed it during the Oracle annual convention for a fleeting moment and he did not mention any other information regarding the new tablet.

As to its public launching and availability on the local computer stores, Dell spokesman Matthew Parretta was also mum on it. For sure Dell is gearing up towards something that may shake the other makers and sellers and R&D may still be tweaking up on things to make this tablet’s debut a success considering that there already is a benchmark on anything pertaining to tablets in the form of the iPad. Anything the new Dell tablet shows aill automatically be compared to the features of the iPad, hence, the reason for the press blackout.

It is obvious that computer companies realize the potential earning capability of the tablet and that is the reason why most of them are venturing into the development of an answer to the iPad. Everybody in the information technology industry knows that people like the tablet and their liking for it was manifested in Apple selling 3.3 million iPads in its first quarter. In fact, reports show that some companies are now utilizing the iPad on short term computer functions such as inventories and short architectural and other office presentations (thanks to the AutoCAD being made available on iPad) instead of using full capacity desktops.

Apple has been in the forefront on the launch of anything that is new in the mobile industry starting with the iPhone which is still the benchmark for all smartphones, and the iPad which is the purveyor of tablets. Thus, other companies are having a hard time setting up their own gimmicks since they still have to contend with what Apple has already instituted.

Dell is not actually new in the tablet world because back in August, it released a 5-inch tablet called the Streak but it never the earth’s atmosphere during it launch. People are complaining about its size, saying it is too small for a tablet but too big for a smartphone.  And Dell would not make the same mistake again, thus, the 7-inch tablet that is soon to be launched.
