It would be alarming for Apple to know that the mainstream of IT developers voted the Android as “the best positioned to power a large number and variety of connected devices in the future” and that majority amounted to a massive seventy-five percent and the number favoring the iOS of Apple is only a measly twenty five percent.
Google and Apple are really battling it out in the domination race of the smartphone world while the Nokia Symbian operating system stands alone on the lead. Windows Phone 7 will be joining the fray in a few days and it will be a battle interesting to watch since big names in the information technology world try to outperform each other by coming with their own amazing operating systems.
However in the survey field as of late, Google’s Android seem to be winning the hearts and minds of developers because of its open policy making the development and testing of new applications very accessible and not as prohibitive as that of Apple’s and in so many aspects the Android has shown great modernism and flexibility.
Take for instance the browsing experience comparison between the iPhone and an Android-powered phone such as the HTC Hero. Yes, the iPhone Safari browser is undeniably fast and stable and reliable yet to date it still does not have the Flash which is already present on the Android. The Android has a default browser and the Opera Mini and the Dolphin to complement it, with the default browser loading way faster than the Safari. It works like your regular PC browser.
Compared to iPhone’s icons spread over its desktop, the Android phone uses widgets which offer more flexibility and functionality. For instance, the Messages widget automatically provides the user access to his or her email straight from the desktop and the same is true with the Twitter Widget allowing the user to be bale to update his ore her Twitter status also right off the desktop.
Connectivity also spells a whole of difference between the iPhone and the Android phone. With the iPhone, for you to be able to turn off special connectivity options such as the Wi-Fi, the Bluetooth, the Mobile Network, or the GPS, you have to go the Settings tab and choose whatever function you desire to turn on or off. With the Android phone, the switches on these connectivity tools are placed individually on the desktop for easy access and this saves battery life more. in fact, there is even an app in the Android Market named Y5 that will by design turn the Wi-Fi off when there is no identifiable network within range.
