An Apple analyst has admitted that their company is a bit worried of the Android’s growing acceptance by the mobile internet device market. According to Gen Munster, the Android will indeed be a threat and will contest the throne that Apple’s iPad has sitting on since the introduction of tablets and other devices that provide mobile internet access. Munster said that they foresee a good year in 2011 as millions of iPad units will be sold. He added, however, Android manufacturers and marketers will also be boosting their own marketing campaigns and may surely garner a significant section of the iPad’s target market.
Munster agrees to what many observers of the market have said about the Android. The operating system or OS developed by Google is one primary factor why this will challenge the iPad. Even Apple executives have said that the Android is a good option for OS using touch screens. Currently, Google is upgrading its OS which is expected to power tablets. This is the version 3.0 of the Android OS, which is code named as the Gingerbread. There are persistent talks that this powerful new OS will be released between the last few months of this year to the early part of the next. Once this OS is out, it will only be a matter of time before Android 3.0 tablets will be introduced.
The Apple analyst also thinks that several companies are already in the process of creating tablets that will use the Android OS. In fact, he predicts that there will be some that will be brought out and sold to the open by the end of the year.
Consequently, the introduction of such new tablets will pose a serious threat to the long-held dominance of the Apple iPad.
In fact, it is believed that the Android will gain a quarter of the tablet market while iPad will get just a little more than 50 percent of it. As the Android develops further, it is quite possible for it to overtake the iPad in the tablet market. One clear advantage that the Android has is the devices it possesses which come from many hardware and software developers.
Based on the statements made by Munster, the belief that Android will wrest the crown from the iPad is indeed possible. The trend is going into that direction according to independent observers; especially it is rare for a competitor’s analyst to come up with rosy predictions for its rival.
