Android Radiation Latest App Surfaces

Cellphone radiation app from Tawkon, a rising developer, was unveiled as the newest addition in the application set for Google Android phones.

The aim of the creation of this app is not to ingrain fear to consumers from using their mobile phones but rather to make then aware of the level of radiation exposed to the body with the use of cell phones. To measure the radiation level, Tawkon has made it sure to use algorithm to assess the specific absorption rate or SAR of radiation - a rate which is absorbed by the body from radio frequency magnetic fields like cellular phones. As a matter of fact, the company uses the phone’s GPS technology and accelemorators to determine the position and propinquity of the device to the body to measure the amount of radiation absorbed by the body.

The app works by providing alerts to users with a vibration when the SAR or specific absorption rate approaches the maximum. What the user can do best is either to change the distance of the device from the body or transfer places. The user can walk around the house or office while making a phone call.

Moving away the device from the body lessens the exposure of radiation. At the same time, walking around the house or office while making a phone call reduces the level of radiation. The reason for this is that many people are not aware that radiation varies depending on the proximity of the cell phone tower. The closer you are to the tower, the higher the level of radiation is emitted.

Because of the radiation issue, various actions have been taken into consideration by some nations and one city in the US. In fact, nations like France and Israel have issued warnings on how radiation can affect bodily functions. However, scientists know that radiation can be absorbed by the body but it is yet unknown what are the specific effects of radiation to the human health.

With regard to this, there is a beta version for this app which provides access to radiation map, from Google Maps. Initially, the app was released for Research In Motion’s Blackberry OS. Now, it is introduced for Google Android OS. It was rejected as an Apple app in iPhone but developers are still hopeful that this can be added through SDK (software development kit) can be added to App Store.

This app does not discourage users from using their phones less. In fact, Gil Friedlander, co-founder and CEO of Tawkon said that they would never tell people from using their cellphones. Furthermore, he added that this app is just a safety net in monitoring the level of radiation in which the body is exposed. He further maintained that through this app, they are providing credible information to have wise decisions in using cellphones.
