As usual, Apple is at it again, unveiling the latest editions of iPod nanos and iPod touches and they were conveniently launched alongside the newest version of the iTunes – the iTunes 10. The latest innovation in the new line of iPod nanos and iTouches is the all too familiar multi-touch technology which was not made available to these Apple items until now.
This multi-touch technology feature is very recognizable to Apple product users since it gives the users the ability to move and jiggle application icons on the home screen by sliding the finger across the screen itself. And amazingly the new iTouch and iPod nano editions are now sporting slicker and lighter razor-thin models creating a totally new and improved iPod nano and iTouch looks and feel.
But the iPod nano was the beneficiary of the most radical aesthetic modifications and you will notice through the years, its design has become gradually slimmer and tighter. What is vey noticeable about the new iPod nano is that it has totally casted off its rectangular shaped and has totally evolved into a compact square figure which is the size of almost half of the original with a screen big enough for a maximum of four icons, almost as huge as a finger.
However, the small size does not minimize the applications because Apple removed the signature wheel and volume and replaced it with two small buttons on both sides of the new gadget. And the video facility of the iPod nano has been totally removed since you will be required to have bionic eyes to be able to watch through that almost microscopic screen. The setbacks of the square nano shape is first, it would be hard to discern where the top and the bottom is until you find the headphone jack, and the catch 22 of it is that it can still be both the bottom or the top (go figure), and second, the screen rotates with each shake of the device.
With its screen rotation ability, worrying about the true direction of the device should be easier yet for some it gets more confusing than it is convenient but Apple made the orientation lock in answer to this dilemma. With an internal radio, a Nike fitness feature, and Genius remixes, the new iPod nano is a must-have for gadget enthusiasts. The battery can last up to 24 hours of playtime, too, just like the earlier edition of the nano.
